How to access VAD

For more than three decades from the early 1980s the principal objective of Dying with Dignity WA was to advocate for enhanced choice at the end of life, and to work for the successful passage through the WA Parliament of safe and workable voluntary assisted dying legislation. This objective was achieved on 10th December 2019 when the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2019 (the Act) passed into law, and, after an 18-month implementation period, became available to Western Australians on 1 July 2021.

The first review of the Act was held in 2023/2024 but resulted in no meaningful changes – see RESOURCES/Review Stage 1

The story of the campaign for VAD in Western Australia can be found on this website under ABOUT/The Campaign or click the panel below to see 'How VAD became law in WA'.
